The Town of Harrison is accepting applications for the position of Town Manager. Harrison is located in Cumberland County on Routes 117 & 35 at the northern end of Long Lake and is 41 miles from Portland, Maine’s largest city and 35 miles from North Conway, Hampshire. Like other towns and villages in the area, the population increases significantly in the summer months associated with Crystal and Long lake activities. Students in grades K-6 attend Harrison Elementary School before moving on to the Oxford Hills Regional Middle, High and Vocational Schools. Restaurants, tourism, summer camps, reality, marinas, excavation, construction, home businesses, retail shops and a variety of service industries form the business sector of the community. Harrison has a small-town charm, with a real sense of community and is a great place to work, live and enjoy the outdoors.
Harrison has a year-round population of 2,573 with a municipal budget of $ 3.8 million and 17 full-time employees. Harrison operates under the Town Manager/Selectboard/Town Meeting form of government which includes a 5-member Selectboard elected with staggered 3-year terms.
The Selectboard is seeking candidates with a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated municipal management experience as a Manager or similar related position, especially with small town experience/knowledge and Road Commissioner experience. Knowledge/experience in areas of budget/finance, grant writing and implementation, human resource, planning, policy management and personnel management are desired. Strong background and awareness of technology and its application in a municipal setting is desired. Superior supervisory and organizational skills, excellent written and oral communications, as well as excellent interpersonal skills are required. Leadership with integrity, honesty, openness and humor combined with creative problem solving will be essential. The successful candidate is expected to become an active member of the community and residency in Harrison is desired but not mandatory.
Applicants will possess a bachelor’s degree in public administration or a closely related field or equivalent public or private experience with a Master’s degree preferred. Salary range is $100,000 to $120,000 to be determined based on experience and qualifications.
